CAPE ELIZABETH — Robert William McGeachey, 59, died unexpectedly on Feb. 7.
Born in Portland on June 15, 1949,  son of Edward J. and Yvette (Bonneau) McGeachey, he attended local schools, graduating from Portland High School in 1968.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in forestry at Paul Smith’s College.
On July 31, 1974, he married Coleen Teresa Barry. Soon after, they moved to Orchard Road in Cape Elizabeth, where they lived for over 32 years and raised three boys together.
His career as an arborist and landscape gardener brought him daily happiness. He starting his own company McGeachey Tree and Landscaping and enjoyed offering his skills and advice to others.
After the birth of his first grandchild in 1997, he became affectionately known as “Bubba.” He truly enjoyed children and it was rare to see him without a child hanging off his shoulders or arms snaked around his legs.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Coleen; sons, Jeffrey Thoreck and wife Courtney, Jason McGeachey of Cape Elizabeth, and Joshua McGeachey of Boston; grandchildren, Griffin, Connor, Owen, and Julia Thoreck, all of Cape Elizabeth; his brother Edward McGeachey and his wife Shirley of Saco, and sisters, Margaret Welch and husband Chris of Westbrook, and Michele McGeachey and husband Greg of Portland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held earlier this week.
Memorial donations can be made to Maine Medical Center, Cardio Thoracic Intensive Care Unit.
Arrangements are by Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
