SOUTH PORTLAND — Mary M. Kelley, 95, of South Portland, died Nov. 19.
Kelley was born April 1, 1919, in Minneapolis, the daughter of George and Anna “Duda” Mital. She was educated in Minneapolis schools.
She worked for many years as a secretary with the federal government, the U.S. Veterans Association and Mutual of Omaha, from which she ultimately retired.
She married Richard Kelley on Sept. 10, 1943, in Washington, D.C.
She was a communicant at the First Congregational Church, and very involved in groups including the Knitting Club, Daughters of the Nile, Eastern Star and the Hilltop Guild.
Kelley enjoyed gardening, cooking, knitting and music. Most of all, she enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and being with family.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Richard Kelley, of South Portland; son, Daryl Kelley, of Portland; daughter, Patricia Kempton, and husband Richard, of Cape Elizabeth; four grandchildren, Andrew Kempton and wife Erika, of Bangor, Michael Kempton, of Portland, Becky Kempton Lewis and husband Donald, of Norwood, Massachusetts, and Helena Kelley, of Portland; brother, Andrew Mital; sisters, Ruth Betzler and Elizabeth Sandberg; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held Nov. 21 at the Hobbs Funeral Home, in South Portland. Interment took place at Evergreen Cemetery, in Solon.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Kelley’s name may be made to Hospice of Southern Maine, Attn: Development, 180 U.S. Route 1, No. 1, Scarborough, ME 04074.
