TOPSHAM – Mary Hill, 82, a resident of The Highlands, died March 18. 

Born in Bath on July 17, 1927, she graduated from Morse High School in 1945 and Westbrook Junior College in 1947.

She met her husband, Bill, at Popham Beach and eventually settled in Naugatuck, Conn., where they raised their family.  In 1998 they retired to The Highlands.

She loved to volunteer and could be found most Mondays and Fridays at Mid Coast Hospital where she assisted at the information desk or at the Maine Maritime Museum.

While living in Connecticut, she was auxiliary board member at Waterbury Hospital where she contributed more than 4,000 hours of volunteer service.

An active member of the Popham Circle, Popham Library and Popham Chapel, she was also an avid knitter and seamstress.

She had a wonderful smile that could light up a room.

She was predeceased by her brother, Dwight W. Pierce, Jr. of Cape Elizabeth.

Survivors include her loving husband, Dr. William E. Hill, Jr.; her daughters, Susan Beaman of Georgetown, Mary Lou Fay of Fort Worth, Texas, and Jennifer Couture of Vernon, Conn.; five loving grandchildren, Julie, Erin and Laura Fay, Daniel and Sarah Couture; and two great-grandchildren, Carson and Hannah Simmons; and many friends in the Bath/Brunswick area and Connecticut.

A celebration of her life is planned for 2 p.m. July 18 at the Popham Chapel.
