SOUTH PORTLAND — Mary E. (Walsh) Connolly, 73, died April 29 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough from ovarian cancer.

She was born in Portland on Dec. 11, 1936, a daughter of Andrew and Christine (Dorgan) Walsh, and attended Portland schools.

In 1963 she married Richard Connolly of Portland, and had a son, Daniel, in 1964.

She was a devoted mother and housewife who performed her duties with love and devotion.
 
Over the course of 47 years of marriage and seven different homes, she made a happy and welcoming place for her entire family to celebrate life’s important moments, with great feasts and good cheer.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Connolly; son Daniel, his wife, Theresa, and her three grandchildren, Brendan, John, and Grace, of Barrington, R.I.; two sisters, Christina Kimball and Kathleen Morse, both of South Portland, brother, Thomas Walsh and his wife, Cindy of Austin, Texas;  sister-in-law Margaret Bernstein and her husband Arnie of Scarborough; two brothers-in-law Edward Connolly and his wife, Dorothy of Scarborough, and Robert Connolly and his wife Linda of Portland; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to staff of VNA Home Health & Hospice, the Gibson wing of Maine Medical Center, and the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.

Memorial services were held on Tuesday.

Arrangements are by Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
