TOPSHAM — Mary Elizabeth LaMotte, 78, of The Highlands, died peacefully at her home Jan. 6.

She was born in Bethesda, Maryland, on March 9, 1938, the daughter of David J. and Gertrude (Jones) Williams. She graduated from The Punahou School in Hawaii in 1956 and received her associate’s degree from Mt. Vernon Jr. College in Washington, D.C.

On Feb. 6, 1960, she married Ferdinand LaMotte IV. LaMotte worked in a variety of jobs, mostly in the hospitality industry.

She enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. She was a member of the chorale group at the Highlands and was on the Kingfield POPS Festival of the Arts Board for several years.

She was predeceased by her husband, who died in 2008.

Surviving are a daughter, Danielle London, of Carrabassett Valley; a son, Ferdinand Williams LaMotte, of Andover, Vermont; a brother, David E. Williams,  of Olga, Washington; four grandchildren, Rebecca and William London, of Carrabassett Valley and Isabelle and Hayden LaMotte, of Andover; a niece and two nephews.

A private family service with a celebration of life will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kingfield POPS, P.O. Box 365, Kingfield, ME 04947 or Coastal Humane Society, 190 Pleasant St., Brunswick, ME 04011.
