FREEPORT — Mary Ann (Beane) Whitten died Dec. 25 at her home in Freeport.
On March 22, 1939, she was born in Gardiner, an only child of Ruth E. (Monroe) and Elwood E. Beane.
She married her high school sweetheart, David, and lived in Boston while he attended college.
In 1971 she and David moved to Freeport and built their dream house, where she enjoyed gardening, planting roses and perennials around the yard.
During her 38 years living in Freeport, she was active in the community, school, and work, creating a wide network of loving friends, including her co-workers at Senter’s Department Store in Brunswick and dear friends from her women’s dining and discussion circles.
She was a loving partner, a proud and loving mother who valued friendship and dignity towards others.
Surviving are her husband of 52 years, David Neil Whitten of Freeport; their four children, Michael Alan Whitten of Bucksport; Beth Ann Kilroe of Key West, Fla.; Karen Elaine Howard of Chesapeake, Va., and Leah Marie Whitten of Portland; five grandchildren whom she dearly loved, Chelsea Lynn Whitten of Charlotte, N.C., Teagan Christopher Whitten of Bucksport, Brie Gaia Reid of Niagara, N.Y., Tyler Whitten Howard of Chesapeake, Va., and Hannah Michelle Whitten of Bucksport.
According to her wishes, a celebration of her life and love for her family and friends will be held this spring.
Arrangements are by Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth.
