YARMOUTH — Mary A. Cooke, 78, died July 16 after a long illness.

She was born in Cumberland Center, daughter of Alfred and Mildred Skillin Cates.

Educated In local schools, she graduated from Deering High School.

She married Robert C. “Bob” Cooke, and happily raised their five children together in South Portland.

With a zest for life, she was constantly planning the next family activity, from gatherings at home, fabulous vacations or trips to the beach.

She attended the State Street Congregational Church in Portland.

She worked in the hospitality business and enjoyed providing a quality experience for her customers.

Her kindness and enthusiasm were contagious and she always opened her heart and home to those in need.

She was predeceased by her husband Bob in 2008.

Surviving are five children, Susan Richards and her husband David of Falmouth, Patricia Rioux and husband Joel of Saco, Sandra MacDonald of Portland, James Cooke of South Portland and Robert Cooke of Saco; seven grandchildren, Erica and Kelly Rioux, Jason, Nicholas, and Eric Cooke, Mary Jessica Cooke and Darren MacDonald.

Memorial services are private.

Arrangements are by Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
