SOUTH PORTLAND — Martha A. “Marcie” Hill, 55, formerly of South Portland, died June 11 at Maine Medical Center in Portland, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Portland on March 6, 1960, she was the daughter of Arthur and Martha (Norton) Mills. She graduated from South Portland High School with the class of 1978, and from Southern Maine Community College in 1980.

Hill was employed by Shaw’s Supermarkets for 32 years, most recently as a store manager in Windham. She then worked as a phlebotomist in Auburn.

Hill loved the outdoors, whether she was skiing at Sunday River or camping on Brandy Pond. She was known for her selflessness and her inspiration to others. Most of all, she loved her family and made them her top priority.

She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Richard Hill, of Windham; her children, Hannah Grace Hill and Thomas Carleton Hill, of Windham; her sisters, Barbara Mills, of Scarborough, Mimi Gray and her husband, Gordon, of Windham, Anita Upton and her husband, Kenneth, of New Hampshire; her brother, Michael Mills, and his wife, Anne, of Otisfield; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated June 17 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, in Scarborough. Burial was to be private.
