PORTLAND — Marjorie Louise Burgio, 88, died Feb. 16 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

Burgio was born in Woods Harbor, Nova Scotia. Her family moved to the United States when she was a small child. She attended Boston schools, where she met her husband Frank J. Burgio; he died in 1977.

She retired from Porteous, Mitchell & Brown Co. in 1991 when the store closed. Before she became sick, she attended worship services at the Stevens Avenue Congregational Church.

Burgio is survived by her daughter, Beth Burgio of Portland; brother, Wilfred Mader and his wife, Mary, of Barrington, Nova Scotia; sister, Barbara L. Shea, of South Weymouth, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life was held Feb. 21 at the Stevens Avenue Congregational Church. Interment will take place in the spring at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
