Marjorie Lord Sherman, 91: Loved cooking, reading and being a mother

SOUTH PORTLAND — Marjorie Lord Sherman, 91, of South Portland, died May 3 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice in Scarborough, with family members at her side.

She was born in Bangor, a daughter of Daniel and Nora French Lord. She was educated in local schools and was a graduate of Bangor High School.

She married Linwood Sherman on July 1, 1940, and they moved to South Portland where her husband worked for the shipyard. She was a homemaker for many years while they raised their family. When she was in her 40s she went to work for Fairchild and remained there for 25 years.

She embraced being a mother. She loved to cook, to read and also enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Linwood; a son, Clyde; grandson, Matthew; and by all of her siblings, Eleanor Manley, Marion Dearborn and Richard Lord.

She is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Linda and Richard Roberge, of South Portland, and Betty Ann and Stephen Abbott, of Westbrook; six grandchildren, David Roberge, Debra Roberge, Ronald Sherman, Robert Sherman, Kayla Michaud and Grant Sherman; six great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and their children.

Private graveside services will be held. Arrangements are by the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel.
