PORTLAND — Marjorie Jean Chase, 98, of Portland, died Aug. 6.

Chase was born on Jan. 1, 1917, in Portland, to Cecil and Beatrice (Green) Spencer. She attended local schools, and then for many years worked as a nurse at Maine Medical Center.

Following her retirement from the hospital, she continued to work locally at a 7-11 store and at Casco Bay Variety. Outside of work, she led an active life, and especially enjoyed feeding the ducks on the Eastern Promenade. She loved to root for the New England Patriots, and enjoyed going to Denny’s, her favorite restaurant.

Chase was predeceased by her husband, Leslie, and by their two daughters, Barbara Ramsey and Carole Austin.

Surviving are several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews and extended family members. She is also survived by her special caretakers, grandson Richard Ramsey and great-granddaughter Naomi Brown.

A period of visitation was held Aug. 16 at Jones-Rich-Hutchins Funeral Home, in Portland, followed by a graveside service at Riverside Cemetery in Cornish.
