BRUNSWICK — Marie Jeannette Fisk Galen, 82, died April 3.

She was born in Centralia, Wash., Feb. 8, 1927, the daughter of Travis and Jeannette (Swan) Fisk.

An avid student, she graduated with distinction with a bachelor’s degree in home economics from The State College of Washington.

After working as an interior designer at Bon Marche in Seattle, she met and married Dr. Robert S. Galen. They were married for 57 years.

She was an active member of the Brunswick community, supporting local schools, area hospital auxiliaries and nonprofits, including the American Heart Association. For more than 20 years, she was a leading docent for the Bowdoin College Art and Arctic museums.

Later in life she accomplished two of her lifelong dreams – experiencing the new millennium and crossing over the Arctic Circle.

Her interests included arts education, real estate and gardening. Her family, and especially her children, were the center of her life.

She is survived by her husband Robert S. Galen of Brunswick; sister Jean (Fisk) Brown of Spokane, Wash.; sons Robert T. Galen of Coral Springs, Fla., Timur F. Galen of New York City, and Derrick T. Galen of Sag Harbor, N.Y., daughters, Jan M. (Galen) Bishop of Newington, Conn., and Melissa J. (Galen) Bennie of New York City; seven grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews.
