TOPSHAM — Marie Bernadette York, 55, died Dec. 16 after a bout with breast cancer. She was born in England on Jan. 20, 1957, the oldest of five children of Michael and Mary McShane.
York had a zest for life. She enjoyed time with family, trying new recipes, traveling to Ireland, watching a good show or getting together with friends. She also was dedicated to serving others, whether helping people with disabilities to live independently or preparing meals for those who needed support. She led by example, and was an active member of her church and a friend to many.
York is survived by her four children, Steven, Michelle and Brian, all of Lewiston, and Walter and his wife, Angela, of West Virginia; three grandchildren, Abigail, David and Stephen; two sisters, Pauline and Christina, of New Jersey; a brother, Stephen; and extended family.
A funeral was held at Maine Street Baptist Church in Brunswick on Dec. 22. The family has requested that donations in lieu of flowers be made to Maine Street Baptist Church, 326 Maine St., Brunswick, ME 04011.
