BATH — Margret Yvonne Grant Hamblen, 86, a longtime resident of Bath, died Jan. 14.

Hamblen was born Dec. 5, 1927, in New Harbor, the daughter of Valverdie and Myrtle E. Grant. She attended Bath schools and graduated from Morse High School. She later completed secretarial school in Portland, and then began her career at Bath Iron Works.

On Aug. 5, 1950, she married Avery Hamblen. She left BIW to raise her daughter and returned in 1971 and worked until she retired in 1997.

Hamblen enjoyed watching her extensive collection of John Wayne movies, as well as dining out at her favorite restaurant, The Galley. She loved her cat Lex very much.

She was predeceased by her husband, Avery, in 1977; two sons-in-law, Carroll H. Griffin in 1985 and Raymond J. Cote in 2012; three sisters, Carolyn I. Chick, Edith E. Wiley and Alice M. House; and a brother, Burton A. Grant.

She is survived by her daughter, Marilynne Griffin-Cote, of Bath; a brother, Verdie Grant; three grandchildren, Ronald A Griffin and wife Beth, Tammy L. Nicholson and husband Mark, of Lewiston, and William H. Griffin and wife Shilo; and four great-grandchildren, Ryan Dolan, Lucas Pono, Aaron Griffin and Cainin Griffin.

At the family’s request there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Coastal Humane Society, 190 Pleasant St., Brunswick, ME 04011. Arrangements are by Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High St., Bath.
