PORTLAND — Margaret Deborah Niles Goodine, 76, died Aug. 22 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Portland on March 19, 1933, the daughter of Clifford and Mildred (Cooper) Niles and attended local schools.

In 1960, she graduated from the University of Southern Maine.

On June 24, 1961, she married the love of her life, Carlisle R. Goodine at Sacred Heart Church in Yarmouth. They were married for 45 wonderful years.

For over 20 years, she worked at Traveler’s Insurance Company until she retired in the late 1980s.

She had a passion for music, and sang for many years in numerous choral groups, including Portland Community Chorus, Sweet Adeline’s Singing Group, the Portland Symphony, and her church choir. Highlights included performing at Merrill Auditorium and the old City Hall.

She shared her joy of reading by volunteering with causes that addressed illiteracy.

Other interests included dancing, especially square-dancing and round-dancing with her husband Carl, gardening, and the ocean.

She was predeceased by her beloved aunt Catherine “aunt Fran” Niles.

Surviving is her loving and devoted husband, Carlisle R. Goodine of Portland.

Memorial services were held earlier this week.
