State fire marshals said 65-year-old Barry Cain died Friday morning, Dec. 30, in a fire that destroyed his Elmwood Road home in Pownal. The fire, near the Route 9 intersection, was reported around 1 a.m.; Cain’s body was found shortly before dawn, according to the Maine Department of Public Safety. Investigators suspect the fire was weather-related, since the electric power had gone out and Cain was known to use alternative sources of heat to keep warm, but the exact cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
