PORTLAND — A 43-year-old man was killed in an apartment fire Tuesday morning on Grant Street.

Portland firefighters and police were called to 65 Grant St. around 8 a.m., police Lt. Gary Rogers said. They found the man in his apartment with serious injuries. He was transported to Maine Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

City records show the building has six units; Rogers said damage was contained to the victim’s apartment.

The man’s name was not released Tuesday morning, although Rogers said a family member had been contacted.

The state fire marshal’s office and the city Fire Department are investigating the cause of the fire.
