FREEPORT — A Limington man died Tuesday in an apparent forklift accident on Main Street, police said in a written statement.

Scott W. MacDonald, 59, a worker for Cumberland-based Coastal Landscape, Construction and Snow Services, was installing granite steps at 140 Main St. just before 10 a.m. when the front forks of a Bobcat skid steer loader, carrying the stone, dropped and crushed him. He died instantly at the scene, police said.

MacDonald and the loader’s operator were attempting to remove the door from the machine when the forks fell.

Freeport police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident.
