PORTLAND — A 45-year-old city man remains in Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries as police search for the person who shot him Tuesday night.

Police Lt. Robert Martin said the unidentified victim was shot around 10:30 p.m. near Oxford and Elm streets.

An on-duty police officer in the area ran to the scene and assisted the victim after he saw the fight and heard the gunfire, Martin said.

Police have not released any information about the suspect now being sought, but are asking anyone with information to call 874-8575.
