FALMOUTH — Maine State Police on Friday arrested a transient in connection with the Aug. 15 stabbing that left a man dead.

Kenneth Briggs, 27, formerly from Portland, was charged with murder in connection with the death of 67-year-old Roger Nelsen, who was found Monday in the Wal-Mart parking lot on U.S. Route 1.

Nelsen died Wednesday at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

According to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland, Briggs, who formerly lived with Nelson, met with state police detectives Friday morning at the Biddeford Police Department, where he was charged before being taken to the Cumberland County Jail.

Briggs’ first court appearance will likely be Monday, McCausland said.

Nelson had stab wounds when he was discovered in a pool of blood during a routine building check by a Falmouth police officer around 3:45 a.m. on Monday, Aug 15.
