A memorial to the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, a gift from the people of Maine, arrives at Portland’s Central Fire Station Saturday afternoon, after stopping first in Freeport and other Maine communities on its way to Newtown, Conn.

The memorial, made of granite, concrete and seashells, includes the names of the children and adults killed last year at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Creator Richard Gray talks with visitors at the Freeport Public Safety building about the work that went into the Sandy Hook Memorial.

Portland Police Officers Kevin Haley, left, and John Cunniff sign in after helping lead the memorial through the city.

Karen Keefe and her daughter Emily, 7, visit the memorial at Portland’s Central Fire Station on Congress Street.

Richard Gray and his daughter Jayden. His dream created the memorial; her idea was the colored letters for the student’s names.
