YARMOUTH — As part of its two-week annual training, the Maine Army National Guard 488th Military Police Company will be conducting a joint exercise in the towns of Yarmouth, Standish, and Gorham through Tuesday, June 17. The exercise will include the use of military equipment and soldiers working with local law enforcement and public safety officials to respond to simulated threats.
In a press release from the Maine National Guard, Cumberland County Emergency Management Director Jim Budway said residents may see increased military presence, and are asked to keep their distance from military vehicles and personnel.
The guard unit will work with various agencies, including Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency, Yarmouth Police Department, Gorham Police Department, Maine State Police, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Portland Water District, Maine Marine Patrol, and emergency medical services agencies.
