PORTLAND — Police are investigating the death of Paul Cady, 43, of Hollis, a patient who apparently jumped or fell from a sixth-floor window at Maine Medical Center Tuesday afternoon.

Cady was identified by Portland Police Assistant Chief Vern Malloch on Wednesday morning. Malloch said Cady’s death does not appear suspicious, but the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is assisting in the investigation.

The incident was reported to police just after 5 p.m. Hospital spokesman Clay Holtzman said the victim was a male patient who was in Richards Tower before his death.

“Our thoughts go out first and foremost to the individual’s family during this very difficult time, as well as our shocked and deeply saddened staff,” Holtzman said.
