FALMOUTH — Maine Audubon is seeking volunteer anglers to survey remote Maine ponds and coastal streams for brook trout.

The information gathered will be used to identify populations of previously undocumented wild brook trout across the state. This will be the sixth year Maine Audubon – along with Trout Unlimited and the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife – have conducted a remote pond survey.

To volunteer, contact Emily Bastian at 781-2330 ext. 207, or ebastian@maineaudubon.org. Additional information about the Brook Trout Survey Project is available at maineaudubon.org/brooktrout.

According to a press release from Maine Audubon, the population of wild brook trout has significantly declined due to development, land use practices, the introduction of competing fish species and angler exploitation.
