FALMOUTH — Maine Audubon has opened a new public garden in honor of Carroll Tiernan, the former long-time manager of the nature store at Gilsland Farm.

Tiernan died last summer after a long battle with cancer.

For more than 30 years, hers was the face that welcomed visitors to the farm, “getting to know their interests and favorite birds, and finding ways to educate them about our work and Maine’s wildlife,” Maine Audubon Executive Director Andy Beahm said. “Carroll lived with grit and grace, and was a role model to many of us.” he added, which is why Audubon built the new .

The Carroll J. Tiernan Meditation Garden was dedicated June 22.
