ROCKPORT — Michael Hoffer, sports editor of The Forecaster, received a Media Award from the Maine Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association at its annual spring conference Thursday, April 2.

Hoffer, who previously received the award in 2004, was recognized for “his incredible talent for writing,” according to Yarmouth High School Athletic Director Susan Robbins, who introduced him. “Quite simply, Michael is the go-to guy in the news media in the Portland area. What impresses me most about Michael is the connection he has with the student-athletes. He only writes what’s in the best interest of the athletes.”

Hoffer has written for The Forecaster since 1999 and became the full-time sports editor in 2001.

“I’m incredibly fortunate to cover high school sports in Maine,” Hoffer said. “I love the level of the competition. I love being able to deal with so many great kids and coaches, and so many terrific administrators. I’m fortunate to be able to chronicle competition that is top-notch.”
