As the calendar flips to February, the Bowdoin women’s basketball team is doing what it so often does this time of year; winning. The Polar Bears’ resurgence highlighted last week’s action.
SUBHEAD-Women’s basketball
The Bowdoin women’s basketball team won 63-61 at Amherst last Friday, then rolled to a 62-44 victory at Trinity Saturday to improve to 16-4 (4-1 in NESCAC play) on the season. Against Amherst, Leah Rubega made a layup as time expired to give her team the win. Jill Henrikson had 16 points. Alexa Kaubris added 14. At Trinity, Rubega went off for 18 points and added nine rebounds. Henrikson and Katie Bergeron both added 12. The Polar Bears return to action Friday at home against Middelbury at 7 p.m. Saturday at 2 p.m., Bowdoin hosts Williams.
(BULLET) Jill Henrikson was named the Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association Rookie of the Week for her efforts against Amherst and Trinity.
SUBHEAD-Men’s basketball
The Bowdoin men’s basketball team lost 73-52 to visiting Amherst Friday, but bounced back and defeated visiting Trinity 65-46 Saturday. In the loss, Mark Phillips had 18 points. Against Trinity, Ryan O’Connell had 14 points. Tuesday, Bowdoin improved to 13-6 with a 56-34 home win over Babson. Kyle Jackson led all scorers with 17 points. The Polar Bears are at Middelbury Friday and visit Williams Saturday.
SUBHEAD-Men’s hockey
The Bowdoin men’s hockey team beat visiting Salem State 4-1 Friday, then tied visiting USM 6-6 Saturday. The Polar Bears rallied from two goals down against the Huskies. Bowdoin is now 8-8-2 (5-6-2 in NESCAC play). The Polar Bears go to Hamilton Friday and visit Amherst Saturday.
SUBHEAD-Women’s hockey
The Bowdoin women’s hockey team fell 6-3 at Middelbury Saturday (despite two goals from Katerine Pokrass), then eked out a 2-1 victory at Williams Sunday to improve to 4-10-1. The Polar Bears are at Hamilton Friday and visit Wesleyan Saturday.
SUBHEAD-Track
Bowdoin’s women’s indoor track team was first and the men came in second in a home meet last weekend. The Polar Bears women defeated MIT and Colby. The men were second to MIT, while Tufts, Springfield and Colby also participated.
SUBHEAD-Swimming
Bowdoin’s swimming and diving teams defeated Trinity and lost to Wesleyan in a home meet Saturday. The men were 165-132 winners over Trinity and 149-146 losers to Wesleyan. The women beat the Bantams 208-72 and fell 159-134 to the Cardinals.
SUBHEAD-Skiing
Bowdoin’s Nordic ski team was ninth out of 11 squads at Sunday’s University of New Hampshire Carnival. The Polar Bears are off to the University of Vermont Carnival in Stowe this weekend.
