HARPSWELL — M. Paul Kleinholz, 94, died June 4 at Midcoast Senior Health Center.

He was born in New York on July 24, 1914, the son of Jacob and Frannie Kleinholz.

In 1935, he graduated from Colby College, and attended Harvard for graduate studies.

His career was spent working as a chemist for several oil companies. He was awarded a patent for an anti-corrosive lubricant composition.

An avid birder and wildlife observer, he and his second wife, Bobby Graham Kleinholz, traveled extensively in search of unusual birds and wildflowers.

He was a member of the Audubon Society, American Birding Society and National Wildlife Federation.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Fern N. Kleinholz in 1974 and his second wife Bobby in 2004.

Surviving are two stepchildren, Peter Graham of Belfast, and Kristianne Andrews of Falmouth, Mass., and their extended families.

Memorial services were held earlier this week.
