HARPSWELL — The town has been awarded $5,000 to improve facilities housing its historical collections and documents.
The grant, provided by the Maine State Museum through the state’s New Century Community Program, will allow the town to purchase a fire-proof door for the vault holding records and historical documents.
In a Feb. 10 press release, Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap said a recent study conducted by the Legislature indicated that many of Maine’s historical collections are in danger of being lost to mold, fire, theft or misuse.
