BRUNSWICK — Lucille J. Bernier, 94, died June 2 at Parkview Adventist Medical Center.

Born Dec. 21, 1915, in Brunswick, she was a daughter of Emma and Arthur Doyon, and attended Brunswick schools.

While working as a waitress at the Miss Brunswick Diner she met her future husband, George Bernier. They were married on Sept. 25, 1939, at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church.

A longtime active member of the church, she volunteered much of her time and talents, including baking her well-known “divinity fudge” for the St. John’s Annual Summer Festival.

She loved to cook and bake and eventually opened her own wedding cake business.

She was recently honored for her years of help and support at the soup kitchen on Pleasant Street.

Her husband George predeceased her on Jan. 6, 1993.

Surviving are her son Roger George Bernier and his wife Nancy of Point Pleasant, N.J.; a brother, Marcel Doyon of Lisbon and two sisters, Rita Moriaty of Burlington, Mass., and Betty Oliver of Vero Beach, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews..

Memorial services were held earlier this week.

Arrangements are by Demers-Desmond Funeral Home, 34 Cushing St., Brunswick.
