YARMOUTH – Lucille “Lu” Fuller Bradford, 84, died Jan. 28 at Maine Medical Center from complications of pneumonia.

On April 9, 1925, she was born in Norwood, Mass., to Dr. Nathanial Fuller and Mary Elizabeth Fuller.

After she graduated from Northfield Seminary, she attended Colby Junior College, graduating in 1946 with a bachelor’s of science in medical technology. At various times in her life she worked in medical technology and as an EEG/EKG technician.

On July 12, 1947, she married John Ramsey Bradford, an entrepreneur and dreamer, and they had six children together. In 1962 they moved to Falmouth, and lived there for 40 years in numerous houses that he built and rebuilt until they downsized to Yarmouth in 2002.  They were married for 59 years, until his death in 2006.

She provided her children with an unusual upbringing; sharing their frustration with the vagaries of the English language, the need for the late night phone calls, and always greeting each visit with a grin and a “good talk.”

Her gardening skills were a source of quiet pride for her.  She had a passion for tennis, until she traded it for bowling, recording strikes into her eighties. In a family of artists, she made her mark by producing rugs of exotic coloring, hooked wall hangings and knitted sweaters.

She frequently volunteered at the library and found joy at the end of the day in her favorite chair with the latest thriller.
