SCARBOROUGH — Louise Marie Musial, 77, of North Yarmouth, died June 11 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House after a period of declining health.  

She was born in Rockland Sept. 18, 1932, one of 17 children of Edna Ruth (Lathrop) and John H. Skinner.

She attended local schools, and graduated from Rockland High School in 1951.

On May 12, 1956, she married Edwin S. Musial, a lighthouse keeper.  Throughout his 24 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, whenever he was on solo tours, he dutifully wrote her every day.

She worked various jobs until she found her calling in nursing. After taking CNA courses at Westbrook College, she worked as a private duty nurse for the remainder of her career.

Known for her green thumb, she maintained a huge garden. At one point, she was the president of the North Yarmouth Garden Club.  

She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, dancing and was dedicated to her family, especially to her grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Edwin, her daughter Marion Fitts, three sisters, Polly, Betty and Bonnie and two brothers, Leeland and Robert.

Surviving are her daughter, Carol A. Andrews of North Yarmouth, and her four sons, Ricky A. Musial of Old Orchard Beach, Stephen J. Musial of Freeport, Bryan R. Musial of Lewiston, Robert E. Musial of South Carolina; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five sisters, Maxine, Ruth, Priscilla, Darlene and Alaide and five brothers, Freddy, Richard, Leslie, Wayne and John; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held earlier this week.
