BRUNSWICK — Lorraine Phoenix, 78, died Jan. 7 at Mid Coast Senior Health Center in Brunswick.

Phoenix was born April 2, 1935, in Newton, Mass., a daughter of Ira and Ida Dean. She was educated in Wellesley, Mass., schools and was a graduate of Wellesley High School. She attended The Boston School of Ballet and also earned a degree from The Chandler School for Women.

For most of her career, Phoenix worked in the health care field, for Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Mass., and for the Massachusetts Hospital Association. She retired to Brunswick in 1988, and enjoyed spending winters in Brooksville, Fla.

A world traveler, she loved visiting Europe, including Scandinavia and particularly the river trips she took in Germany, France and Austria. Phoenix enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Brunswick Golf Club. She was an admirer of the ballet, an animal lover, a voracious reader and an amateur photographer. She also did a great amount of needlepoint and other handwork, and spent many hours ice skating in her younger years.

Phoenix was predeceased by a daughter, Laurel Anderson, and a son, Evan Davidson.

She is survived by her son, Dana Davidson; her partner of 17 years, Clement Nickerson, of Brunswick; sister, Jackie Butler, of Cape Elizabeth; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A memorial service celebrating her life will take place in the summer in Brunswick. Donations may be made in her memory to the Coastal Humane Society, 190 Pleasant St., Brunswick, ME 04011. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Brackett Funeral Home, Brunswick.
