CAPE ELIZABETH — Lois Elizabeth Ewing, 86, died peacefully May 15 at her home, with her family by her side.

She was born Nov. 5, 1928, in the Scarborough home of her parents, Lowell F. McLaughlin and Hazel M. (Morse) McLaughlin.

She married Warren Elwood Ewing Jr. on Oct. 23, 1948. He predeceased her in 1970.

Over her life, Lois worked at several jobs, beginning with one on her father’s farm. She went on to work for 20 years at J. Weston Walch Publishers in Portland, and for 12 seasons at L.L. Bean Inc.

In her free time, she enjoyed traveling, gardening, following the Boston Red Sox and meeting her family for weekly breakfasts at The Good Table restaurant in Cape Elizabeth.

Ewing is survived by her three sons, Jonathan L. Ewing, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Jeffrey E. Ewing, of Yarmouth, and Scott L. Ewing and wife, Elizabeth, of South Portland; and four grandchildren, Lana Ewing and husband, Alex Forrest, of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, Jill Ewing and husband, Jordan Smith, of Pownal, David Ewing, of Shanghai, China, and Benjamin Ewing, wife Kelley and their daughter, Raven Burns-Gibson, of LaGrange, Kentucky.

She is also survived by her sister, Sylvia Swinburne of Harrison; her brother, Robert McLaughlin and wife, Audrey, of Merrimack, New Hampshire; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, Friday, May 22, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough. A reception will follow and committal will be at 2 p.m. in Black Point Cemetery, Scarborough.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donation be made to the Pine Tree Society, 149 Front St., Bath, ME 04530, or to a charity of one’s choice.
