CHEBEAGUE ISLAND — Chris Loder was elected to the Board of Selectmen in a special election Tuesday.

Loder won with 75 of the 107 votes cast. He was the only candidate on the ballot for the seat vacated Aug. 13 by Mark Dyer. The term expires in 2016.

“I am grateful for the opportunity and honored with the privilege to serve my community,” Loder said Wednesday.

Three ballots were submitted with no votes and the other votes went to write-in candidates. Ariette Scott received 23 votes, Mary Holt received four, and Daniel Todd and Kevin Wentworth each received one vote, according to town clerk.

Loder is a business innovation leader at IBM and has lived on the island for just over a year. This will be his first elected public office.
