Athletes from Cape Elizabeth, Scarborough and South Portland took part in the recent swimming and diving and track and field New England championships.

Indoor track and field held its meet in Boston Friday night.

The top male finisher was Scarborough senior Ross Thomas, who was 11th in the high jump (6 feet-3 inches). Senior teammate John Gonzales placed 24th in the 55 (6.85 seconds). South Portland’s 4×200 meter relay team, featuring junior Adrian Reid, senior Jamison Esquibel, sophomore Daniel Medici and senior Joe Michaud, was 13th (1 minute, 35.32 seconds).

On the girls’ side, Cape Elizabeth junior Rachel Nichols placed 14th in the mile (5:21.89). Junior Kelsey Barton was 20th in the two-mile (11:55.30).

Scarborough junior Emilia Scheemaker came in 15th in the long jump (16-3.5). Sophomore Emily Tolman placed 19th in the long jump (15-10.25). Senior Jenny Snyder was 20th in the 55 (7.63) and 21st in the 55 hurdles (9.13). Sophomore Nicole Kirk finished 21st in the 300 (43.87) and 22nd in the 55 (7.72). The Red Storm’s 4×200 relay team (Snyder, freshman Jessica Meader, senior Abby Chick and Kirk) placed 24th (1:52.07). Scarborough’s 4×800 squad (senior Kelsey Schild, senior Melissa DellaTorre, Tolman and Chick) came in 26th (10:35.97).

Swimming’s New England meet was held late last month in New Hampshire.

The lone local participant was Cape Elizabeth sophomore diver Kevin Flathers, who had the fourth-best score (274.50 points).
