Deering wrestler second in weight class

Several local standouts capped their winter season with New England competition last weekend.

Deering senior Ryan Toussaint finished second in the 125-pound weight class at the New England championship wrestling meet in New Haven, Conn. Toussaint beat Nick Flannery of Framingham, Mass., 6-5, in the quarterfinals, decisioned Joe Pronk of Marshfield, Mass., 3-1, in the semifinals, then lost 10-0 to Mike Meyers of Warwick, R.I., in the finals.

Summa fourth at track and field championships

The New England indoor track and field championships were held in Boston. Cheverus’ Caroline Summa was fourth in the girls’ high jump (5 feet, 5 inches). Teammate Fiona Hendry was 13th in the girls’ mile (5 minutes, 18.77 seconds). McAuley’s Allina Verrillo placed 13th in the shot put (35 feet, 6.25 inches). Teammate Lauren Fecteau did not finish in the two-mile.
Cheverus’ Jack Terwilliger, Josh Reali, Taylor Dundas and Andrew Snyder had the ninth-best time in the boys’ 4×800 relay (8 minutes, 8.47 seconds). Individually, Dundas came in 15th in the mile (4:42.04). Snyder placed 16th in the 1,000-meter (2:43.00). Terwilliger finished 25th in the two-mile (10:18.60).
