The fall sports season has begun and early results have been promising for local teams.
The fun is just beginning and here’s a glimpse at what you might have missed:
Football
Brunswick’s highly-touted football team started with a hard-fought 27-25 home win over Falmouth last Friday. The Dragons visit 0-1 Skowhegan Friday night.
Mt. Ararat also opened with a victory, holding off host Medomak Valley, 13-6. The Eagles are home against 1-0 Kennebunk Saturday.
Morse started with a 34-7 home loss to Gardiner. The Shipbuilders go to 1-0 Hermon Friday.
Boys’ soccer
Mt. Ararat’s boys’ soccer team enjoyed a 6-0 victory at Skowhegan in its opener. The Eagles were home with defending Class A champion Lewiston Tuesday, welcome Edward Little Friday and visit Brunswick Tuesday of next week.
Brunswick and host Mt. Blue played to a 2-2 tie in the opener. The Dragons were at Edward Little Tuesday, play at Lewiston Friday and host Mt. Ararat Tuesday of next week.
Morse settled for a 1-1 draw at Medomak Valley in its first game. The Shipbuilders were at Lincoln Academy Tuesday and went to Erskine Academy Thursday. They welcome Maranacook Saturday and play at Leavitt Tuesday of next week.
Girls’ soccer
Brunswick’s girls’ soccer team impressed in its first game, rolling over visiting Mt. Blue, 6-0. The Dragons hosted Edward Little Tuesday, welcome Lewiston Friday and play at Mt. Ararat Tuesday of next week.
Mt. Ararat doubled up visiting Skowhegan, 4-2, in its first game. The Eagles were at Lewiston Tuesday, go to Edward Little Friday and host Brunswick Tuesday of next week.
Morse dropped a 2-1 decision at Medomak Valley in its opener. The Shipbulders were at Lincoln Academy Tuesday, hosted Erskine Academy Thursday, visit Maranacook Saturday and play host to Leavitt Tuesday of next week.
Field hockey
Morse’s field hockey team blanked visiting Lincoln Academy, 7-0, in its opener. The Shipbuilders hosted Oceanside Tuesday and welcome Maranacook Monday of next week.
Mt. Ararat started with a 2-1 victory at Camden Hills. The Eagles were home with Lewiston Tuesday and Hampden Academy Thursday, then play at Oxford Hills Monday.
Brunswick dropped a 5-0 home decision to Edward Little in its first game. The Dragons were home with Camden Hills Wednesday and went to defending state champion Skowhegan Thursday. Brunswick is home with Lewiston Monday.
Volleyball
The Brunswick/Mt. Ararat co-op volleyball team opened its season Tuesday at home versus Yarmouth. After going to defending Class B champion Cape Elizabeth Thursday, Brunswick/Mt. Ararat is at North Yarmouth Academy Friday and visits Cony Monday.
Cross country
Brunswick and Morse took part in a six-team cross country meet at Medomak Valley to start the season. The Dragons were first in the boys’ meet, while the Shipbuilders came in second. In the girls’ race, Brunswick was first and Morse came in third.
Mt. Ararat joined Lewiston at Edward Little to start the year. The Eagles boys and girls both placed first.
Golf
Mt. Ararat’s golf team won its first two matches: 9-0 over Brunswick and 7.5-1.5 over Edward Little.
Brunswick started with losses to Mt. Ararat (9-0) and Leavitt (7-2).
Morse beat Mt. View (9-0) and Oceanside (6.5-2.5) to begin its season.
