There were several big moments for Mid-Coast teams last week, as local athletes also turned heads on the court, ice, slopes, trails and in the pool.

Here’s a glimpse:

Swimming

Local swim teams and individuals are in the midst of a strong season.

Brunswick’s girls’ team was undefeated at press time, boasting a 6-0 record. The Dragons are coming off wins over rival Mt. Ararat (86-55) and Edward Little (99-61). Freshman Caitlin Tycz has set new program records in both the 50 and 100 freestyle. The team’s three relay teams are all ranked first in the league. The boys are almost perfect, starting 5-1. Brunswick is coming off wins over Mt. Ararat (127-44) and Edward Little (107-23). Sophomore Nate Samson has set new program records in the 100 and 200 free. The Dragons compete against Hyde and Wiscasset Friday.

Morse’s boys improved to 7-0 after beating Cony last weekend, 119-44. The Shipbuilders girls are 3-2-1 after downing the Rams, 93-70. Morse hosts Edward Little Friday.

Mt. Ararat is back in action Friday at Waterville.

Boys’ basketball

On the hardwood, Morse’s boys dropped to second behind Greely in the Western Class B Heal Points standings at 10-3 after a 55-53 home win over Leavitt and a 58-50 triumph at Gardiner last week. The Shipbuilders were at Medomak Valley Tuesday, host Erskine Friday and play at Oceanside Tuesday of next week.

In Western D, Hyde was also second in the standings, to Forest Hills, with an 8-1 mark, following wins at Islesboro (54-39) and Sacopee Valley (69-34). The Phoenix was at Rangeley Tuesday and hosted Pine Tree Academy Thursday, welcomes Islesboro Saturday and plays host to North Yarmouth Academy Tuesday of next week.

In Eastern A, Brunswick began the week sixth in the standings at 8-5 after a 58-34 home win over Mt. Blue, a 64-54 home loss to Edward Little and a 48-38 home victory over Brewer. The Dragons go to Lewiston Friday and host Skowhegan Tuesday.

Mt. Ararat enjoyed a 76-65 home win over Edward Little last Tuesday, then fell to 6-7 and seventh in the Heals after a 76-49 loss at defending Class A champion Hampden Academy Friday. Against Edward Little, Shyheim Ulrickson exploded for 44 points. He set a school record with 10 3-pointers. The Eagles host Lawrence Friday and go to Cony Tuesday.

Girls’ basketball

On the girls’ side, Brunswick was 8-5 and fourth in the Heals after losing at Mt. Blue (56-43) and Edward Little (55-5) and beating visiting Brewer (66-49). The Dragons host Lewiston Friday and go to Skowhegan Tuesday.

Mt. Ararat began the week 3-11 and 11th (only nine teams make the playoffs) after losing at Edward Little (51-40) and beating visiting Hampden Academy (43-38) and defending regional champion Bangor (55-44). After going to Lawrence Friday, the Eagles welcome Cony Tuesday.

In Western B, Morse was 3-9 and 13th (10 teams make the playoffs) after a 40-28 loss at Leavitt. The Shipbuilders hosted Medomak Valley Tuesday, go to Erskine Friday and welcome Oceanside Tuesday of next week.

In Western D, Hyde was 1-9 and 14th (10 teams qualify) after a 35-26 loss at Sacopee Valley, a 30-24 loss at Islesboro and a 55-34 home loss to Hebron. The Phoenix was at Rangeley Tuesday and hosted Pine Tree Academy Thursday. Hyde is home with Islesboro Saturday and goes to NYA Tuesday of next week.

Hockey

On the ice, the Brunswick boys are third in the Eastern A Heals at 6-4-1 after a 2-1 win at Mt. Ararat/Lisbon and a 5-2 home loss to Lewiston. The Dragons host Lawrence Saturday and go to Bangor Tuesday.

The Eagles fell to 6-6 and eighth (seven teams make the playoffs) after the 2-1 home loss to Brunswick and a 5-2 victory at South Portland. Mt. Ararat/Lisbon goes to Bonny Eagle Saturday.

On the girls’ side, Mt. Ararat was 3-11-1 at press time, good for the fifth spot in Eastern A (five teams make the playoffs). The Eagles lost at home to Yarmouth/Freeport (2-1) and beat host Brunswick (3-2) last week. Monday, Mt. Ararat fell at Capeflete, 3-1. The Eagles go to two-time defending state champion Greely Saturday and welcome Winslow Monday.

Brunswick was 1-12-1 and sixth after losses at Falmouth (6-0), at home to Mt. Ararat (3-2) and at home to Yarmouth/Freeport (4-1). The Dragons go to Leavitt/Edward Little Saturday and play at Lewiston Wednesday.

Wrestling

Mt. Ararat’s wrestling team is coming off a 48-30 win over Erskine and a 56-18 loss to Skowhegan. The Eagles are at Mt. Blue this weekend.

Morse beat Oceanside (39-30), Winslow (36-30) and MCI (42-27) and lost to Medomak (48-38) and York (54-9) last week. The Shipbuilders visit Mt. Blue Saturday.
