The Nor’Easters Synchronized Skating teams, representing the North Atlantic Figure Skating Club based in Falmouth and featuring several skaters from local towns, struck gold and silver at the 18th annual Cape Cod Synchro Classic held Dec. 7-9 in Bourne, Mass. The competition attracted over 1,000 athletes on 108 teams from Washington, D.C. to Maine, which vied for titles in 15 divisions divided by age range and test level.

Making their season debut, the Open Adult Team tied for first place, earning a gold medal in their division, while the Open Juvenile Team tied for first, but claimed silver on the tiebreaking mark. The Nor’Easters Open Adult Team is comprised of 10 skaters ranging in age from 24 to 60, with an average age of 47. Their program was performed to Donna Summer’s classic disco hit, “Hot Stuff.” The team includes Leigh Baker of Somersworth, N.H., Susan Black of Windham, Kathy Cain of Oxford, Heidi Coffin of Brunswick, Chelsea Ferk of Biddeford, Sue Gagne of Lewiston, Susan Greenwood of Gorham, Sarah Lawsure of Scarborough, Meghan Morrissey of Gray and Caroline Paras of Portland. The team is coached by Lori Johnson of Portland.

The Nor’Easters Open Juvenile team is comprised of nine skaters ranging in age from 13 to 18. Their program was performed to an up-tempo hit, Box of Secrets,” by singer-songwriter Zarif. The team includes Leah Israel of Cape Elizabeth, Ava Demer, Caroline Samaras and Elanor West, all of Falmouth, Sophie Lawsure and Haley Rice, both of Scarborough, Sarah Holmes of Cumberland, Danielle Rybinski of Barrington, N.H., and Victoria Cortez of Dover, N.H. The team is coached by Beth Houghton of Newburyport, Mass.
