FREEPORT — The eighth Lobsterman Triathlon will take place this Saturday, Sept. 19, with 800 athletes from across the country competing.

The Olympic-distance race begins at 9:30 a.m. at Winslow Park. Triathletes will start with a 0.93-mile (1.5K) swim in Casco Bay from the boat launch near the entrance of Winslow Park.

They will bicycle 24.7 miles (40K) through Freeport into Brunswick on Staples Point Road, South Freeport Road, Porters Landing Road, Lower Mast Landing Road, Flying Point Road, Bunganuc Road, Woodside Road, and Pleasant Hill Road. Bicyclists will be on the course from approximately 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and drivers are advised to use caution during these times.

The 6.2-mile (10K) run will start at Winslow Park and loop through South Freeport village, affecting Staples Point Road, South Freeport Road, Park Street, Middle Street and Main Street. Runners will be on the course until about 12:30 p.m.

Packets will be available to pick up Friday, Sept. 18, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Freeport Casco Bay YMCA, and on the morning of the race between 7 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Winslow Park will open at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, and athletes are encouraged to arrive early. Park entry fee is $1 for Freeport residents and $2 for non-residents.

Staples Point Road will close at 9 a.m. and will reopen about 12:30 p.m. No cars will be able to leave Winslow Park during this time.

After the race Gritty McDuff’s will host a lobster bake. Tickets are $25 per person and are available at registration or by visiting active.com.
