BRUNSWICK — Linda Filley Laguerre, 70, died early April 18.
She was born in Troy, New York, in May of 1944 to Family Court Judge Marcus L. and Dorothy M. Filley. She grew up in rural Rensselaer County and attended Emma Willard and St. Agnes schools. A natural athlete, she excelled at tennis, field hockey and gymnastics and was the leader of St. Agnes’s gymnastic/cheer team. Laguerre possessed an exceptional gift for teaching and helping children which led to much volunteer work at Boston Floating Hospital while working toward a degree at Wheelock College in Boston.
She married R. Ted Laguerre, her husband of almost 50 years, in 1964, becoming a graduate school spouse, Navy wife, interior designer and business owner, as well as a mother and grandmother. The family lived on Seaborne Drive in Yarmouth for almost 37 years, where boating and cruising and neighbors were greatly enjoyed.
She was a Scout leader, worked with special education students in Yarmouth Schools for a number of years, was a Ronald MacDonald House volunteer and designer and furnisher for its most recent addition, and served on the Chamber of Commerce in Yarmouth.
Her true professional passion was as an interior designer. She loved helping others upgrade and enhance their surroundings through her design firm, Pineapple Perfection Ltd., which she founded and operated for many years. She was an early licensed Maine Interior Designer, a member of the American Society of Interior Designers and an officer in Maine Interior Design Association. More recently, her helping nature brought her to working as a hospice volunteer and a home assistant for elders.
She is survived by her husband; daughter, Danielle Newcomb; son, Teddy Laguerre; aunt, Gracie; uncle, Derrick; cousins, Nancy Angle and Georgia McCracken; sister, Leith Filley Colen; and grandsons, Jake, Keegan, Drew and Declan.
A memorial service was held at First Parish Congregational Church on May 1. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Troy, New York, at a later date.
