FREEPORT – Lily (Oldham) Curit, 93, died Feb. 24 at Hawthorne House with her family by her side.
Born on Feb. 27, 1917, in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England, she was the second daughter of William and Lettice Oldham.
She met her husband, Gordon Everit Curit, in England while he was serving in the Army as a personal cook to General Patton. They were married in Macclesfield in 1945.
In 1946 they moved to the United States and settled in Freeport.
She worked at Freeport Shoe Co. and L.L. Bean until she retired.
For many years they enjoyed their summer cottage on Long Pond in Belgrade Lakes. She loved to travel and visit family in England, knit, cook and tend her flower gardens.
She was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 1999, three brothers, William, Ernie and Albert and two sisters, Rosa and Clara.
Surviving are her granddaughter, Jillian Buzzell of Freeport; a great grandson, Gage Robertson, of Freeport; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at 10 a.m. Friday, March 5 at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth.
