PORTLAND — A traveling exhibition of the Library of Congress will offer free public tours in Monument Square this weekend.
“Gateway to Knowledge,” a customized 18-wheel trailer that expands to three times the road width, will be open from noon to 8 p.m. on Sept. 2 and 3.
The exhibit contains “high-quality facsimiles of many of the library’s top treasures,” according to a press release. It will outline the history of the library, the nation’s oldest federal cultural institution, founded in 1800.
The exhibit is expected to visit 60 sites on its tour. It comes to Portland from Concord, N.H., and will then head to Newport, R.I.
