Libby

CAPE ELIZABETH — Natalie (Blackwell) Libby, 88, died Feb. 6.
She was born in Portland, Aug. 22, 1920, daughter of Alice M. (Sanborn) and Elmer Nicholas Blackwell.
She graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School, Westbrook College and Blackstone College in Virginia.
She served as deputy town clerk of Cape Elizabeth under the first town manager, Allen M. Marks. She later became town clerk and served for 26 years, until her retirement in 1986.
She was an avid American Saddlebred and Morgan horse owner all of her life, participating in competitions, and serving in numerous horse and equestrian associations. A founding member of the American Saddlebred Association of Maine, she was later inducted into the ASAM Hall of Fame.
She served as a trustee for Sprague Hall, and was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church in South Portland.
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph E. Libby in 1987.
Survivors include her children, Jo Hight and her husband Wayne of Scarborough, and Jeffrey B. Libby of Chocorua, N.H.; grandchildren, Jeffrey Morgan and his wife Donna of Saco, Daniel Morgan and his wife Bonnie of Scarborough, Susan Childs and her husband David of Vermont, Todd Libby and Melissa Libby; nine great-grandchildren; her uncle Oakley R. Sanborn of Portland; and her cousin Annette Jordan of Cape Elizabeth.
Memorial services were held earlier this week.
Arrangements are by Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
