BRUNSWICK — Lewis E. Palmer, Jr., 74, died June 9 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Born in Bath, Sept. 22, 1936, a son of Lewis E. Palmer, Sr. and Gertrude Joy Tibbetts, he attended Bath Schools and Morse High School.
During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Germany.
On Sept. 18, 1959, he married Betty E. Casavant and had three children together.
For 42 years he worked at Bath Iron Works until retiring in 2002 as a supervisor in the Harding Plant.
He was a member of the Polar Star Lodge A.F.& A.M. in Bath, Montgomery & St. Bernard, the Dunlap Commandery, Mt. Vernon Council of Brunswick, Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a Cryptic Mason of Maine.
In his free time he enjoyed fishing, boating, and playing his steel guitar.
A sister, Laura Austin, predeceased him.
He is survived by his wife Betty of Brunswick; two sons, Lewis E. Palmer, III, and his wife Elizabeth of Brunswick, and Dwayne Palmer and his wife Cheryl of Brunswick, and a daughter, Sue Descoteaux and her husband John of Louisville, Ky.; a brother, Richard Palmer of Brunswick, and a sister, Elizabeth White of Lisbon Falls; five grandchildren, Rhiannon Palmer, Krissinda Palmer, Dwayne Palmer, Jr., Kyle Palmer and Lewis Palmer, IV.
Memorial services were held earlier this week.
