The combination of greater energy independence, creation of green jobs and making immediate energy savings is a tough combination to beat, but that’s just what Maine voters will get if we approve Question 2 on the June ballot.

Question 2, a $26.5 million bond issue, funds $15.5 million in energy improvements in buildings throughout the University of Maine System, the Maine Community College System at Maine Maritime Academy. These are much-needed improvements that will make these public facilities more energy efficient and cost effective.

Another $11 million will fund development of an offshore wind energy development site. This University of Maine project will be designed to develop a new green industry (and the jobs that come with it), while helping to provide a clean, renewable source of energy for our state.

Please vote on June 8.
