As a mental-health professional, I am concerned about the health of Maine’s children and families. Medicaid is a vital program for so many Mainers, allowing thousands access to life-saving physical and mental-health services. Expanding Medicaid will mean more Mainers can afford care and will mean more jobs for health-care professionals like me. The Maine Center for Economic Policy estimates that the additional $500 million per year in health-care spending would create over 3,000 new, permanent jobs in Maine.

I’ve had many patients over the years lose their Medicaid coverage and no longer be able to afford the mental-health services they need and deserve, many because of the cuts pushed through by Gov. Paul LePage. It’s a tragedy that should never happen in the richest nation in the world.

Please join me in voting yes on state Question 2 on Nov. 7.
