I grew up in the old North Yarmouth. I came back in my late 20s, for the rural community character of our town, and run the Sam Ristich trails through the Town Forest. The opposition ballot on Nov. 3 aims to sell the heart of our town, the Memorial School, maybe for manufacturing, maybe a shopping mall, maybe senior housing. Who knows –here’s no plan. Since North Yarmouth acquired the school, the gym has once again come alive with over a dozen recreation programs six days a week. We’ve had town meetings there, committee meetings, and it feels like home. It’s a perfect space for North Yarmouth. I encourage you to vote to keep the heart for our community, not sell it. There’s plenty of available space for businesses in North Yarmouth. We don’t need to sell the only community center we have left. I’m voting yes on Question 1 and no on Question 2.
