I had an opportunity to sit in on a Yarmouth Cares About Neighbor’s monthly meeting recently and was alarmed and saddened by what I heard from several of the board members and invited guests who work in the community. There are many individuals and families in our community who do not have enough food, clothing or enough income to provide for their heat during the year. I was not aware to what extent the need exists in our community. The need is great.

YCAN is a multi-dimensional umbrella organization that was formed to bring the community together to help those residents who find themselves in need of assistance. Under YCAN there are several agencies, organizations and programs with the common goal of helping those individuals.

A few of the services these agencies, organizations and programs provide are fuel assistance, food support and free rides for seniors. There is a Resource Guide that describes each service available to Yarmouth residents, many more than are listed above, and contact information to take advantage of what is offered. Access the Resource Guide by going to YarmouthCAN.org.

If you or anyone you know could benefit from any of these services, please contact YCAN. More importantly, if you can support these worthwhile programs, by active participation or financially, please contact YCAN.
